SEIU MEMBERS ENGAGE IN FINAL PUSH IN INDIANA
On Heels of Latest Victory of SEIU Backed Cazayoux in LA, Workers Get Out the Vote for Barack Obama, Jill Long Thompson and André Carson
Hundreds of SEIU janitors, home care workers, hospital workers and others campaigned around the clock this weekend to get out the vote for Obama in Indiana. They joined more than a thousand Change to Win workers in going door to door, making phone calls, and speaking out in their communities for the change that Obama will bring as president.
In addition to campaigning for Obama, SEIU members are also urging voters to turn out for Jill Long Thompson for Governor and Congressman André Carson in Indiana’s 7th district.
The get out the vote campaign is part of an extensive effort by SEIU members in the state. Since last week, SEIU has been running two TV ads in Indiana– one urging voters to elect Barack Obama for his opposition to the war, and the other urging support for Carson based on his commitment to health care reform.
SEIU members are optimistic about the primaries in Indiana and North Carolina after helping to elect a pro-worker candidate, Don Cazayoux, in Louisiana’s 6th congressional district this weekend. SEIU aired a TV ad in the final days before the vote and SEIU members went door to door and made phone calls on Cazayoux’s behalf. The seat was previously held by a Republican for 33 years.
