Jessica Levasseur loved spending time at New Hampshire’s State Parks as a kid—now she’s making a career out of it. Starting as a seasonal employee in 2003, she helped managed campground reservations at the parks before becoming full time.

Now Jessica keeps all of the nearly 80 state parks running smoothly, serving as a liaison between field staff and the Department of Resources.

“It’s the perfect job since I feel like I’m caretaker of all the parks,” says Jessica on the position she created. “I also get to make sure park staff are getting the resources they need for our guests.”

Jessica’s love of the outdoors doesn’t stop at work. She and her husband spend nearly every weekend camping at one of New Hampshire’s 18 state campgrounds.

When she’s not working or spending time outside, Jessica and her husband Nick are busy making their mark on local politics. She played a major role in helping her husband win a town selectman seat two years ago. Last year, the couple decided to launch a long shot campaign for the Statehouse. To her shock, Nick won and joined the 14 other SEIU members and family members in the state legislature. Jessica also serves as Ward 4 Secretary for the Manchester Democratic Party.

Living in Manchester, voters can’t travel very far before they run into a presidential candidate and Jessica is looking forward to becoming more involved in the primary. She hasn’t met every candidate yet, but her main concern is electing a president who will protect our planet for our kids and grandkids.

Another major concern for Jessica is ensuring parents have adequate child care.

“Families can’t afford to have one parent at home but often times they also can’t afford hundreds a week for child care,” she says. “I heard this a lot when my husband and I were out knocking on doors for his campaign. We want to start a family soon too, so it’s also something we worry about.”

Jessica has been a lifelong resident of New Hampshire, growing up in Bow before moving to Manchester.
