Lorraine Bradley on why she supports Barack Obama.
I talk to people at church. I talk to people at work. I knock on doors and I make calls.
I tell everyone I see why Barack Obama is the best candidate for working families.
So when I got up on stage Saturday night in front of thousands of my neighbors and coworkers to introduce him, I just told the crowd the same thing I tell everyone else—Barack Obama is the change our families need.
Senator Obama has stood up for workers and SEIU members his entire career and he’s got the solutions to ensure my grandson can be anyone and anything he wants when he grows up.
My grandson George is 14—he’s at an age where he needs something to believe in. Senator Obama asked him to be on stage with me and I know meeting our next president is something he’ll never forget.
George spent three hours yesterday writing about why Barack Obama should be president to share with his history teacher. It wasn’t homework—he told me he was so overwhelmed by meeting the Senator that he had to share it.
That’s powerful to me because I worry about his generation’s future.
I’m supporting Barack Obama because I don’t want George to struggle like so many families today are. I want him to attend any college he wants without starting his life out in debt, I want him to get a job with a decent paycheck after he graduates, and I want him to have health care and a secure retirement.
Barack Obama has a plan for George. He has a plan for all our families.
But he needs our help. If we’re all involved—knocking on doors, making phone calls, talking to everyone we know—we can elect a president who is going to stand up for our interests every day.
