Barack Obama: The Change Working Families Need
For 20 years, Barack Obama has made standing up for working families his top priority. As a community organizer, he worked with SEIU members to improve our neighborhoods. As a State Senator, he worked with SEIU members to expand health care for children. As a U.S. Senator, he worked with SEIU members to increase the minimum wage, expand health care, and limit the influence of corporate lobbyists.
He stood up for nurses, janitors, and other workers fighting for a union voice. He met one-on-one with SEIU child care providers to talk about the issues at stake this election. He released his health care plan alongside SEIU health care workers. He’s even walked a day in the shoes of an SEIU home care provider.
Now, SEIU members are standing with him to elect a president who will win affordable health care for all, an economy that benefits our families, and an end to the war in Iraq.
As President, Obama will:
Provide affordable health coverage to all Americans. Obama’s plan covers all children, guarantees coverage regardless of preexisting conditions, reduces costs, and increases choice and portability for families.
- End the war in Iraq and bring our troops home safely so we can spend money on building new schools and hiring good teachers.
- Sign the Employee Free Choice Act, protecting our freedom to have strong unions.
- Give students $4,000 a year for college if they commit to spending time working in their communities.
- Help families suffering under the housing crisis so they can keep their homes and be protected from predatory lenders.
- Reduce the influence of corporate lobbyists.
- Pass tax cuts that benefit working families.
